Every term this year 3 regular students will be posting to their own video blog to tell us what it's like to study a Diploma.
I’m 14 years old, I’ve got a younger sister and I like to skateboard. I also play the drums in a band, and enjoy PlayStation® games like Tony Hawk. My favourite music is heavy metal and rock, bands like Avenged Sevenfold and Green Day. I think I’m pretty outgoing and unique; and hopefully in the future I’d like be a pro-skater or run my own business.
I like learning new things and putting them into practice. As part of my Diploma course, I’m taking two GCSEs in Food Technology and Drama which are both quite practical subjects. When I thought about my options, I decided to pick the things I’ll be best at and that I’ll enjoy most.
I heard about Diplomas when we were given our choices for this school year. It was on the list of options, and I thought that looks new and quite interesting I’ll give it a go.
I’m studying for a Higher Diploma in Information Technology and I’m finding it a lot more practical than what I’m used to. It’s about real money, real people and a real product.
It’s definitely fun and interesting! I do one whole day a week on my Diploma course, and get to go to a nearby City Academy for some of my classes. My favourite thing about it so far is being involved with real businesses. In my course, you set up a business with a certain amount of money. We pick what the business is about and choose people for different jobs, like MD, and we get to keep any profit. So it’s not just imagining; it’s really getting involved.
My dream job is to be a pro-skater, but I’d enjoy having my own business too. Maybe two or three shops, selling computers or skateboards! After I finish my Diploma course, I’d like to go to University to do a degree in Business or Information Technology.
