A future career or further study in the creative and media sector is bursting with opportunities, some in areas you might not have even thought of yet. The Diploma helps to prepare you for them by giving you the skills and experience you need to succeed. What’s different about the Diploma is that businesses in the industry are investing their time to help you do this.
This is why you’ll be learning about all the different elements and how they fit together from the people who know, as well as learning new skills in the areas you’re most interested in. What the sector can offer in return is a whole heap of exciting roles, in a fast-moving scene with many rewards from the practical and personal skills you’ll develop to the unique challenges you’ll face.
So, what’s it really like?
It’s hard to describe the creative and media industries because it’s a sector that covers so many things: from web designers to photographers, actors to sound technicians. If you think about advertising, which is just one area within it, the UK is second only the US and brings in £1.4bn to the economy every year.
Design is even bigger, with 180,000 people working in nearly 15,000 businesses right now. And of course there’s the music industry, which is huge. Everything from ticket sales and album downloads to concerts and performers. There are also many people doing creative and media activities, like web design and development, writing and editing, in all sorts of businesses outside of the sector.
At any one time, more than half a million students at colleges and universities are taking creative and media subjects. That’s a lot! So it’s likely there’ll be some competition because it’s such a popular area to work in, but if you keep at it, the rewards can be great.
That should give you an idea of how big an area this is to explore, whether you’re thinking of working in it or studying more about it. By doing the Diploma in Creative and Media, you’ll get the chance to do just that: Explore everything.
