A career or further study in the Environmental and Land-based sector is packed with really exciting opportunities; especially with climate change such a hot topic. The Diploma helps to prepare you for them by giving you the skills and experience you need to succeed. What’s different about the Diploma is that businesses in the industry are investing their time to help you do this.
This is why you’ll be learning everything about the industry, and the earth’s issues, from the people who know. What the sector can offer keen young people in return is a really hands-on career, doing something you’re passionate about, with great rewards.
So, what’s it really like?
You might be surprised to know that there’s over a million people working in environmental and land-based jobs in the UK. It covers everything from farming and animals to climate change, garden centres and parks - plus so much more in between.
While you’re unlikely to find lots of really big companies to work for, you will find loads of variety. Just take land use in the UK as an example. Years ago it was all about farming and producing crops to feed the country. Now, that land is being used for lots of other things too like horse riding schools, go karting, golf courses and tea rooms.
There’s also a huge push to protect the planet, so you can do your bit to help combat climate change in many types of jobs. You would look into things like pollution and compliance. Or you could get into waste management and energy conservation (things like wind turbines and solar power).
Working with animals is another big area, with opportunities to work with so many types of companies - from those who produce animal feed to zoos, a vet’s practice or a conservation trust like WWF or the RSPB.
That should give you an idea of how big an area this is to explore, whether you’re thinking of working in it or studying more about it. By doing the Diploma in Environmental and Land-based studies you’ll get the chance to do just that: Explore everything.
